Knights of Columbus - Council 10470
In Service To One. In Service To All.
When a Knight Acts Selflessly,
he acts on behalf of the world

Who We Are
Surge ... With Service
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal service organization founded in 1882 by Father Michael McGivney in New Haven, CT USA with the purpose of providing financial security for parish widows and orphans. His idea grew quickly, becoming an order of Catholic men, and with their families dedicated to promoting the concepts of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. Knights have been supporting Catholics in the military as well as other denominations in both world wars, and other conflicts with locations to pray, gather for entertainment and respite.
Our Council History
Since 1990
Our Council was granted its Charter on August 15, 1990, identified as Council 10470. Presently there are 73 registered members including several of the founding group. We have an elected executive of 13 members who hold office for a one year period. Meetings are held each month to organize and plan events and activities. Decisions are based upon votes by both the executive and general membership. The majority of members are parishioners of St. John the Apostle..
Benefits of being a Knight
Surge ... With Service...
Being a Knight is about helping others and enjoying the company of brother Knights and their families. The most important benefit is the joyous feeling that you and your family get when you make a positive difference in the lives of others. The Knights of Columbus now ranks in the top 5% of life insurance companies in North America with almost $77 billion of insurance in force and nearly $14 billon in assets. This strength enables first class insurance coverage for its members, if desired, and the ability to financially support numerous large projects consistent with the order’s aims. Other benefits include a free accidental death policy for member/spouse, access to various scholarships or bursaries for dependants, beneficial rates for RRSP, RIF, GIC and the availability of long term care insurance. In 2009 $431million was paid out in life insurance.

4th Degree
Any Third Degree member in good standing, one year after the anniversary of his First Degree, is eligible for membership in the Fourth Degree. The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a love of and loyalty to the Knights' respective countries through active membership in local Fourth Degree groups (called "assemblies"). Certain members of the Fourth Degree serve as honor guards at civic and religious functions, an activity that has brought worldwide recognition to the Knights of Columbus.
